Come a little closer - review

Rachel has a real gift, she totally makes you believe in her characters and their lives.
It is a rare talent and she gets ever better.

I worked with her for 'Sixth Window' and still have 3 signed for £7 and free delivery, use my Paypal.

That was like reading a magical illusion, you are looking right at it...
and don't see what happens. Really up to the minute plot details too, she taps into the zeitgesit big time.

Her plot and twists are impeccable and her writing is fluid and well paced, but her depth is in detail of nuance of character being the key, you really get to know them and feel for them, including the bad guys.

DCI Tom Douglas is great, he's a real unassuming guy, solid and clever and under stated and a fantastic 'tec.

Her latest, is a step towards... Look into my eyes and do what I say territory...
Brutally brilliant, she weaves away a web of deception and duplicity with flashbacks, parallel stories that mesh and yet you don't quite realise how much so until the very end... and what an ending... no spoilers... but, seriously...

A helpful older couple meet a young woman on a cruise in Burma/Myanmar and befriend her, having helped others, they are perfect for her, they are offering free board and keep and freedom to use a beautiful car and all the mod cons of a fine house, no catch, just till she is ok to return to her busy life... However, there are secrets, we get told them, but never in a way that they become known, so clever.

Tom has promised to be honest and yet he too, has a secret and it may just haunt him.

Impeccable storytelling, ever so clever and totally believable, I'd ask Paul McKenna to do a crit if I was Rachel...

Truly a 9/10 and so is her previous one, I've 2 others to now read... can't wait.
